On the question of whether or not the Bears should go all-out to defeat the Packers in a meaningless game, I’ll just leave it today to trust Lovie Smith on it.
It was reported that in 2007 Smith called a meeting with the Chicago media and uttered his famous quote: everyone needs to trust that the decisions he makes are the right decisions for the Chicago Bears, and not question him.
So, if the Bears rest their starters and they get blown out by the Packers and they get embarrassed in the first round of the playoffs, put it on Smith. If the starters play and a key starter is injured, it’s Lovie’s fault.
I’m being facetious, but that’s the position a head coach in the NFL is in, like it or not. And if the Bears do win the Super Bowl, then I’m OK with Smith’s five-year extension. But not unless they do.
Enjoy the game and Happy New Year.
