Did everybody forget what he did with the Lions and 49ers. Lets look at all the stats. I wrote about this in greater detail in my blog:

Chicago Bears May Take a Hit With Mike Martz as Offensive Coordinator

By: Roy Taylor Fri, 05 Feb 2010 02:59:43 +0000 Good points Traffic. One thing I am virtually certain of-the Bears defense will lose more games in 2010 than the offense. As was true in 2007, 2008 and 2009.

On the other hand, some of what I have been reading on the Bears site and in the papers scares me a bit. Martz says is is ‘impressed’ with the receiver corps? There is not one receiver on this team who could make another NFL team as a receiver only! Martz is quoted as being impressed with the speed of the receiving corps. To that I say ‘so what?! Running fast to the wrong place does not accomplish anything. And when the play calls for you to be somewhere at a particular moment and for the QB to deliver it there before you make your break… INTS are bound to happen if you do not get to the spots! This corp of receivers are clueless as to how to read defenses, run routes and get separation from the DBs! The TE is just as bad in all aspects and cannot block a lick to boot!

So Martz being impressed by the receiving corps makes me less impressed with him. He also says he is ‘impressed’ with the O-line. What a joke! If he thinks he can install ANY kind of open offense with this line, he will need a permanent supply of TUMS on the sidelines this year!

Free agency is the only answer to these problems and since most teams do not ‘just’ release or trade talented players (unless you are talking about the Donkeys), the availability of players who can come in and help is not high.

If he makes something out of the offensive mess, my hat will be off to him!!:-)
