Chicago Bears Orange Jerseys

And for anyone else that will be there Sunday, just a reminder, we’re told to wear orange. (I really don’t like linking to the propaganda site, but in this case I pretty much had to).

As a Bears uniform enthusiast, I’m always game to see a new Bears uniform combination. I have to say I’m not a huge fan of the orange jerseys. I wish the Bears would remember that they are one of the rocks in professional sports as far as carrying their uniform tradition with strict adherence to the past. So I just wish they would have come up with something a little more original than just the orange jersey. You don’t see the Packers selling out and wearing a yellow jersey once a year, do you?

I just realized yesterday that the NFL allows each team to either wear an alternate jersey like the Bears’ orange, or a throwback uniform, two times per year. So instead of wearing the quickly-designed orange, I’d instead love to see the Bears don some 1960′s throwback uniforms twice a year, as the Chargers and Bills, among others do.

A Bears 1960 throwback uniform would not be much different than the current duds.  That’s a wonderful thing, but perhaps the reason they don’t do it.  The jersey would only be slightly different, the pants would have a thinner stripe, but most importantly the helmets would have a white C and gray facemasks.  I think it would look very cool.  But, like with anything else that would make sense with the Bears organization, it won’t happen.

When it comes to uniforms, regardless of the sport, I am A purist. The Bears navy blue jerseys have been their home uniforms for many decades, and it should continue. They are classic, and look great. Needless to say, I am not a big fan of their orange jerseys. Likewise, I am happy to see that the Bears are wearing white pants on the road once again, which is what they wore for many years.

  2. It might look better if the numbers were Navy, instead of white, also the stripes on the jersey should be blue as well.

  3. oops! the stripes are blue, my bad

  4. I agree – the jerseys would look better with navy numbers and lettering. They sell replica jerseys like that, yet they have never worn them on the field(?). Orange jerseys with navy numbers/letters and navy pants – I think that would look pretty sharp. Something different, at least.

  5. Is there any logic to the uniform combinations that they wear from week to week? I know it is generally home=blue, away=white, but sometimes they wear the white at home, and the color of the pants seems to switch at random. Sometimes all white, occasionally all blue… any rhyme or reason?

  6. Foreman, What I have heard is that the players vote on the road uniforms….this year they voted for all whites all year long. The only time since the 1940′s the Bears have worn white at home were in the 2005-2007 home openers. Thank God they stopped that this year. I am intrigued by this myself and wanted to interview Bears equipment manager Tony Medlin for my book but he wouldn’t give me the time of day. I know you’ve seen my uniform page here:
