So Will He Be Satisfied Now?

OK, so I missed the BIG news yesterday. Not feeling well and hit the sack early. Completely missed the news that Brian Urlacher agreed to, and the Bears gave into Urlacher by providing, a contract extension.

The extension provides Urlacher with $18 million in new money over the original contract and an immediate $6 million bonus.

So now, we can put this all behind us and just focus on the Chris Williams signing. (Oh, don’t forget Devin Hester, for whom an extension will be important to obtain this season).

I can’t help being a little facetious about Urlacher. Will it be enough now? If he has a big year in 2008, will he demand another renegotiation/extension? I wish I were entirely kidding.

  1. Brian Urlacher made a good point when talking earlier this summer about why he wanted to renegotiate his contract. He said that if he had played like crap the Bears would have asked him to restructure his contract with him earning less money, or just released him, which is true. You don’t see the high management complaining about this move, because they know that if he underperformed they would have cut him, and the only money he ever would have seen was the guaranteed money he got at the beginning of his contract. It was business, it will be over today. I am ready to see what Brian does this year with Mike Brown protecting his back.
