Roy, like yourself, I got started on Bears fandom at a very young age. I was very lucky just to be old enough to experience the Super Bowl. My father got my younger brother and I started, and it helped that my childhood was during the Ditka days. It also helped I had two uncles who treated the Bears like an event, too. what's funny is that all three of them married into a family where the father was a bitter Cards fan. He picked up the Packers in the 60s, but he never revealed this info to us. I guess it wasn't cool to be a Packers fan in the 80s.

JDM, why did I have the feeling that you were older? For some reason I did, kind of strange since I know nothing about you other than you're "JDM" :). Good story though and thanks for sharing. I know Double D had some major problems the last few years, may he rest in peace. It's good to see someone say he was a good guy to meet in person.

This one hits home because I met the guy and even worked with him for a day. In early 1993, I was a 15-year-old working at McDonalds. I went to work, just like I did every Sunday morning. Sure enough, I see a dude talking to our owner. One of my co-workers goes to me and says, do you know Dave Duerson? I'm like, yes, of course. Well, that's him. So, I can say I got to work the drive thru with Dave Duerson. He also signed a fry box for me. It got lost in one of my moves, but I'm not a big autograph guy anyway.
