Marc Trestman, Your Next Bears Head Coach

Marc TrestmanBrad Biggs of the Chicago Tribune was burning the midnight oil, and found out overnight that the Bears will announce the hiring of Marc Trestman as the 14th Head Coach in their history.

I remember Trestman’s name being thrown out everywhere ten years ago. I trust Phil Emery’s decision. The comparisons of Trestman to Dick Jauron (if Dick Jauron were an offensive genius) are a bit unsettling, but I do trust Emery.

  1. Like I said yesterday, I’m cautiously optimistic about this choice. He seems well respected around the league, and I like the way Emery has handled this search, so I feel good about its results. I’m hoping that it works out well.

  2. Looks like he is already putting his staff together. Not a bad start. http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2013/01/16/aaron-kromer-will-join-bears-staff/

Personally, I wanted Mike Singletary. We needed that fire and passion back in Chicago. He also knows what Bears football is about…

  3. And, Dave Toub has been replaced. http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2013/01/16/cowboys-allow-joe-decamillis-to-take-bears-assistant-job/

  4. I’m optimistic also, worked w/ several great QBs in the past. Hopefully there will be big changes to the OL & TE groups as well.

  5. I thought they would pick Arians based on what he did this season. But I can’t complain about Trestman. He seems to have all the attributes Emery was looking for.

  6. Exciting stuff guys. First time a true offensive mind has been hired in my lifetime. Fact of the matter is he could be the next Bill Walsh or the next Dick Jauron, but we’ll find out one way or another. I’m expecting the best.

  7. I see that it’s being reported that Marinelli has gone. I’d hoped he’d stay – he’s done great things with the defensive line.

  8. Hey Bill, I’m disappointed in that as well. But Marinelli being bestest-buddies with Lovie, he wouldn’t stay. Hopefully we can squeeze one more year of good play out of the D.
