Ding, Dong, Omiyale is GONE!

My buddy Bill in the UK beat me to it! Look, Frank Omiyale seems like a really great guy, so no personal offense intended. But the release of Omiyale is a relief.

Signed as a potential sleeper star by Jerry Angelo prior to the 2009 season, Omiyale looked solid in backup appearances as a tackle in Carolina. But Angelo and/or coach Lovie Smith immediately moved him to guard, where he was weak. Then in spot duty at right tackle in 2011, Omiyale was an abomination.

What I can’t figure out is how he ended up being very serviceable at the critical left tackle position during the 2010 season, leading to the hosting of the NFC Championship game. How could he be so bad, yet be at least OK at left tackle?

Who knows, but he gone!

  1. This is a time to rejoice. Omiyale is on the Bears’ most horrible offensive lineman list I’ve ever seen and joins Fred Miller, Quasim Mitchell and Orlando Pace as complete disasters in recent memory.

I don’t know what’s making me smile today: Omilyale being released or the reemergence of the Shamrock Shake at McDonalds.

  2. I knew I’d hear from Jeff B on this!

The guy was so bad that he earned the nickname ‘The Turnstile’ in my Bears circles.

  4. Yeah this move had to be made, another in the long line of Angelo acquisitions that didn’t work.
