Bears Sign TE Michael Gaines

That was quick.

Just a few days after it was reported the Bears would have a visit with former Lion tight end Michael Gaines, they signed him to a one-year contract.

That’s a little odd.  Yes, I’ve read that Gaines may be the blocker that Desmond Clark and Greg Olsen are not, and Kellen Davis certainly is not.  But teams don’t keep four tight ends.  So who goes?  It would be a shame if it’s Davis, who I think has a world of potential catching the ball.  It couldn’t be Clark, who was resigned prior to the 2008 season.

I guess it’ll be Davis, unless Gaines doesn’t make the cut.

  1. Maybe keep Gaines in the 2nd fullback spot? Or who knows if he’ll even make the roster once all is said and done.

  2. I spoke on how the Gaines acquisition affects the depth chart as well: Did the Bears fill their holes? Can they and will they be exposed?

  3. Are they planning on using 3 TE sets, since they can find any decent wide receivers?
