When it was announced yesterday that the New England Patriots released their two-time Pro Bowl safety Brandon Meriweather, as usual I thought this would be a move that would make a lot of sense for the safety-depleted Bears. But Meriweather is a character risk, and the Bears usually stay far away from questionable characters, regardless of talent. In case you didn’t know, Meriweather has the dubious distinction of being the player that stomped on the head of an opponent during a game in 2006.
What do you know, today the Bears signed the castoff, and I certainly hope he’s going to find playing time soon. And I certainly hope it works out. The deal reportedly is for one year.
