Bears add RB Michael Bush

Rather surprising in my opinion, to hear today that the Bears signed former Raiders running back Michael Bush. Bush was thought to be the best available running back on the free agent market. Bush received a lucrative four-year contract worth $14 million with $7 million guaranteed.

Yes, it helps the Bears to get a quality second running back after swinging and missing at the position since the Bears had a productive tandem in Thomas Jones and Cedric Benson. Let’s hope this works out better than the last two attempts (Marion Barber, Chester Taylor).

But I can’t help feeling odd that the Bears have invested $14 million in a second running back when in my opinion they still need serious upgrades at defensive end, safety and throughout the offensive line.

Let’s hope new GM Phil Emery is supremely confident that help for those positions will be available in the 2012 draft.

And did I mention that Matt Forte is pissed at the development? As explained in the article at Profootballtalk, tough, this is where the market is for running backs.

  1. Great move today. 977 yards in ’11 and good depth at a position where it will be needed throughout the year.

  2. Yeah it’s not a bad signing; Bush is a good solid big RB, but I’d think that the money could be better used elsewhere….but what do I know. I trust they’ll make the right decisions, for some reason.
