8-14-12 Chicago Bears Quick Hits

The major news today, of course, is that Brian Urlacher underwent arthroscopic knee surgery today. After being “excused for personal reasons” for a week, while the team claimed his knee would be OK for the season opener. Urlacher reiterated today that he was gone for personal reasons when asked if the absence was related to the condition of his knee. The Bears continue to state that Urlacher will be ready for the season opener “as far as they know,” while WSCR was reporting this afternoon that this is in doubt.

No question the Bears’ defense revolves around the play of Urlacher, and having him unavailable, especially for the game at Green Bay the second week of the season, would have unfortunate consequences for the team.

And over the weekend, running back Cedric Benson signed with the Packers. I’m hoping Green Bay ends up getting a dose of bad Cedric before the year is up, and he doesn’t rush for 192 yards against his old team as he did in 2009.

  1. Hopefully 54 is back for the opener, this defense just wouldn’t be the same without him. We’ve all seen the impact it had in 04 & 09 when he wasn’t in there.

  2. Remember Kerry Wood and Mark Prior after 2003? Oh, they’ll be back by Opening Day. Opening day: As a precaution, we’re sitting him until April 15th. Then, he’ll definitely be back May Third. Next it’s, ok, he should be good by the All Star Break. Finally he pitches three innings in August until he’s put on the DL for the year.

I’ve seen this kind of stuff before!

  3. Oh yes I remember well…let’s hope this doesn’t turn out to be the case here.
