8-1-12 Chicago Bears Quick Hits

Here we are, August already, and as always I can’t help thinking it’s going to be December before we know it. I’ve been away for a few days, so here’s catching up on a few themes from early in camp.

I thought it was funny when I read that Viking owner Zigi Wilf stated that he expects his team to be NFC North champs. It remains to be seen how the Packers, Bears and Lions will jostle for the top of the division, but I don’t think Minnesota will be in the mix.

The Bears traded a seventh-round pick for defensive tackle Brian Price, a former second-round pick of the Buccaneers. Giving up a seventh-rounder can’t really be considered high risk, but there is a risk that Price will not work out against a high potential for reward if he does. Price had a detached hamstring injury and plenty of turmoil in his personal life. If he does bounce back the Bears feel he could spell Henry Melton as another Tommie Harris type of player.

According to the Sun-Times, new quarterbacks coach Jeremy Bates will bring explosiveness to the Bears’ offense. That’s what I like to hear, for sure.

  1. Can’t wait to see the new offense and what kind of matchup problems Marshall and Jeffery can give the other secondaries. I think Earl Bennett will be great in the Dennis McKinnon possession WR role as well.
